Aquatics Center

The Roger Williams University (RWU) Community Partnership Center (CPC) focuses on the school’s engagement with local communities throughout Rhode Island and Southern Massachusetts. As a Project Manager for the CPC’s Design and Research Team, I lead a group of architecture, engineering, and construction management students to conduct research and design an Aquatics Center for the Town of Bristol, RI. Through meeting with members from Planning and Zoning, Parks and Rec, and the local community we developed a program, chose and assessed a site, researched building practices, and designed a new aquatics center. Through collaborative iterations, the final design is situated on a site with the existing parks and rec. The design connects into the existing building, creates additional parking, and is home to the program which includes a 6 lane, 25-meter pool, locker rooms, offices, and viewing area. The building is designed to be a host to numerous functions including public swimming, competitive swim events and birthday parties. After a careful study of the site, we situated the building with its large operable window wall to the North and many window fenestrations to the south, utilizing the every changing New England Coastal weather.
