This house was designed using shipping containers (I know but it was the trendy thing in the mid 2010s and who doesn’t love a good module). Situated along the shore in New Jersey, this design focused on trying to use a shipping container in a different way than I (again in 2014) had yet seen. Standing a shipping container up vertically alotted the space needed for a staircase that doubles as a solar chimney to capture the beauty of the afternoon and evening ocean breeze.
I'm posting this to my website in 2026... and it’s wild to look back on these drawings and renderings and compare it with all the work and progress I’ve made since then. The quality of drawings and rendering sure has taken a turn for the better since this project. But it’s also amazing to look at this and see that I was already considering the landscape and site as such a large key design parameter and feature. A theme and throughline that has taken off far beyond what I could have conceived at the time.
